About Martin Gallon

Martin began his career in the art world as a saleroom assistant with auction house Phillips (now Bonhams) in London in 1979.  By chance this position occurred in the paintings department and a lifelong passion for British and European works of art started.

Six years later Martin moved to the North West of England and not long afterwards, moved to Sotheby's to run their picture department in Chester.  In 1992 Martin returned to London where he became director of Sotheby's Victorian, Scottish and Marine Paintings departments.  It was during this time that Martin travelled extensively in search of items to be returned to London for sale by auction.  Australia became a regular visiting point.

In 2001, Martin moved to Melbourne with his family to take up the position of Managing Director of Sotheby's Australia.

Martin Gallon International Art was founded in 2003 and the present gallery opened in 2006, offering collectors a unique opportunity to acquire and admire quality European pictures from diverse periods and styles. Martin is a member of The Australian Art and Antiques Dealers Association and is also a registered valuer in his categories with the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program.
