Martin was approached at the start of 2007 to act as guest auctioneer for Indonesian based Art Auction House "Masterpiece"

The contract with "Masterpiece" has been renewed for 2009 with 9 planned sales in Jakarta and  2 sales in Singapore. Masterpiece completed its 5th year in business in November 2008 and the event was celebrated in true style with a party held before that month's fine art sale.

The Indonesian market is primarily contemporary and demand has been incredibly strong. Sale clearance rates have consistently topped over 80% with estimates often eclipsed by eventual sale prices.2008's expansion into Singapore has created many new buyers and greatly enhanced Masterpiece's name within the Asian aution market. 

"Acting as auctioneer takes me back to my days at Sotheby's except that I am fortunate not to have the pre and post sale pressures associated with the actual running of sales and it is a welcome addition to my gallery work in Melbourne. It has taken a while to become familiar with the artist's names, many of which are real tongue twisters, but I thoroughly enjoy the events and have a lot of time for the owners of "Masterpiece". I consider it an honour and a pleasure to be asked to perform on their behalf."

The first sale in Singapore in March 2008 proved to be a huge success especially for the booming Indonesian section of the sale. Over 400 lots were sold over two days and in many cases, estimates were far exceeded. The second  sale in August proved equally popular following agressive and successful marketing by Masterpiece."We will continue to grow in Singapore but we will not neglect our Indonesian market and will continue to provide numerous sale opportunities throughout 2009." Early signs show that selling rates are remaining high and this is a credit to the extremely hard work done by the staff as they market the sales so agressively. The sale schedule for 2009 is impressive with the company making full use of its own premises which allows for a far more adaptable and flexible calendar.
